Ranthambhore and the Road

YEA, GOOD WIFI, PICS ARE ADDED!

The German woman who was on safari with us said that there are videos of "T34", our tiger of Ranthambhore, on Youtube and pictures somewhere on the  interne if Cal and others want to see him in action.  Also all this month Animal Planet has a special series on tigers every night at 9:00 PM.

A few pics from Ranthambhore before we get to Jaipur.  Although we didn't see any more tigers, we did sea some nice sized crocodiles and very cute monkeys.  And Eva had fun feeding some of the beautiful birds.

A herd of camels were being fed and watered by the side of the road, or should I say in the road.

School bus full of children, hanging off the back.  All in their uniforms.  School kids smile and wave at us a lot.

Some of the ATMs look a little sketchy but generally work ok.  There are 54 Rupees to the dollar so typically I will get 10,000 rupees, a little less than $200.  Our driver mentioned that his income is only about 60,000 or $1,200 per year.

Wheat fields all over. Harvested by women in saris using hand scythes then tying them into bundles.  Men stack them then a mobile thresher (about the size of a large cement mixing machine) is brought in and the wheat is bagged and put on trucks (overload).  The straw is cut up into small pieces that are bagged or loaded into wagons that have a huge bag attached…like 12 feet in diameter.

The division of labor also applies to construction sites.  Women mix the concrete by hand then carry it in bowls on their heads to wherever the men are building the wall with either stone or brick.  We have also passed stone quarries and trucks overloaded with stone.  Another area had around 15 brick kilns with 50' high smoke stacks.  Obviously no pollution control on the kilns. As in China, they use bamboo scaffolding for most buildings.
